Outreach Committee Grant Application

Criteria:
• Centered in Christ. Following the example of the life and teachings of Jesus, the outreach ministry will announce and share the love of God for all people through word and deed.
• Creates opportunities for service, prayer, praise, and learning the Gospel.
• Opens opportunities for participants to give testimonies, share learnings about the power of Jesus, and reflect on the Gospel together.
• Worship is encouraged but not required. When worship takes place, it is an extension of congregational worship.
• Encourages participants to live as evangelists.

Examples:
• Training and formation programs to equip people to share God’s good news.
• Initiatives that encourage lay leaders to practice evangelism in their communities.
• Service and ministry with people in need, like elders, veterans, people who are houseless.
• Neighborhood events like concerts, outdoor movie nights, holiday meals that encourage people who are not currently worshiping in a congregation to enter into a church or connect with a church group in the community.
• Cooperative programs with local schools and organizations that serve young people.
• Participation in local festivals and parades.
• Serving food and beverages outside a local food pantry.

The Outreach Committee of the Northern Illinois Synod would like to support congregations in their outreach ministries (sometimes called evangelism or witness), so they are offering small grants to fund new, innovative ideas for reaching out into the community, beyond the walls of the church building, to intentionally share the good news Jesus brings. Creativity is encouraged. Congregations may apply no more than once a year for grants of up to $2500. These grants are not meant to fully fund an outreach initiative; the congregation should have additional sources of funding. If approved, funds will be released approximately one month following the submission deadline. Congregations will be asked to report on how the funds were spent and how they impacted the outreach or evangelism ministry of the congregation.

Deadlines for Grant Submissions

February 28, May 31, August 31, November 30

Please note:

If approved, funds will be released approximately one month following the submission deadline.
